Gora Ivanščica
The geological origin of Mt. Ivančica belongs to the origin of northwestern Croatia 240 million years ago, in the Upper Paleozoic, Triassic, Cretaceous, Tertiary and Quaternary periods, when Croatia was mostly covered by the sea.
Mt. Ivanščica is about 30 km long and about 9 km wide and is the main watershed of the branched hydrographic network between Bednja and Krapina, that is, the Drava and Sava basins. Three quarters of the mountain (about 150 km² ) are covered by forest. The streams that spring there, Željeznica and Belski dol, flow to the north into the Bednja river.
Mt. Ivanščica was and remains the goal of mountaineers, nature lovers, scientists and hikers. The first excursion was recorded in 1858, and the Mountaineering Association dates back to 1899.

The peak of Mt. Ivančica is located at 1060 meters above sea level. It is the most common destination of hikers visiting Mt. Ivančica. In addition to the mountain lodge "Pasarićeva kuća", there are also two viewpoints on the top of Ivančica. The smaller viewpoint, "Stričevo", offers a view towards Ivanec, Varaždin and Međimurje.
At the highest elevation point of Mt. Ivančica, the 10-meter-high viewing tower "Pyramid" was built. The viewpoint is unparalleled in terms of view due to its central location in Zagorje. It is built of iron on concrete foundations. In 1893, mountaineers from Ivanec built a wooden pyramid on that spot and arranged a small shelter next to it.
With an airstrip at its top, Mt. Ivančica is very popular for paragliding. The airstrip is located on a former ski slope at the very top of the mountain, near the television transmitter. It is oriented NE-E and the winds from those directions are suitable for flying. Landing sites are located in the village of Prigorec (meadows near the sports field) or in Ivanec (meadows near the kindergarten).
